ABOUT

The Clinical Conference

The O=MEGA21 Clinical Conference is presented by Optometry Victoria South Australia. It will bring a domestic speakers in a cutting edge educational program with a dual stream format tailored to meet the needs of optometrists at all stages of their career. You can choose to attend the clinical conference over one, two or three days.

What does your Clinical Conference Registration include?

  • Free trade fair entry to over 100 exhibitors.

  • Lunch, morning and afternoon tea on the day you attend.

  • Networking cocktail events (Friday only).

  • The opportunity to earn up to 22.5 clinical CPD hours (with assessment) including up to ten therapeutic hours (including assessment) and up to five interactive hours (including assessment).

  • A dual stream format of hourly lectures from highly regarded clinical speakers from Australia.

  • Sponsored breakout sessions (CPD hours subject to accreditation).

What is the difference between a Conference Breakout Session and a Masterclass?

Breakout sessions take place during the clinical conference and are presented in a small, more intimate setting by conference sponsors on topics relevant to optometrists. These sessions may also attract CPD hours depending on the content (subject to accreditation).

Masterclasses are aimed primarily at optical dispensers, opticians and practice management staff etc. and are run mostly by education providers and training organisations. They do not have clinical CPD hours attributed to them. Optometrists booking for the clinical conference are welcome to attend a masterclass (fees apply) but attendees should note that masterclasses may conflict with sessions within the clinical conference program.

Paediatrics: Practical ocular medicines in children

1.5 CPD Hours (with assessment)

Optometrists in Australia employ ophthalmic medicines in their paediatric practice to assist clinical diagnosis and to treat ocular conditions. Prior to employing ocular medicines or initiating treatment it is important to consider the risks versus benefits of ophthalmic medicines and determine the minimum dose required to safely achieve a diagnostic or therapeutic benefit. This session will present, summarise and comment on the use of ophthalmic diagnostic and therapeutic agents in children and reference where practitioners can look for more detailed information. The perspective is set in the Australian context of a collaborative approach between paediatric optometry and ophthalmology eye care practitioners for delivery of best practice care in infants and young children.
